Activities at Grange Rifle and Pistol Club
Smallbore Section
Smallbore is all about precision shooting. Smallbore shooters shoot at the smallest targets from twenty-five and fifty yards away, and the bull is smaller than a penny. No bipods or telescopics sights are allowed, shooters instead use a shooting jacket, sling and aperture sights. The rifles are single shot, heavy barrelled precision target rifles.
Available for use from the GRPC armoury are target rifles from Anschutz, BSA and Finnish Lion. To shoot at we usually the twenty-five yard British Match 1989 Series 10 diagram target, shot from prone (lying down) position. Shown below is a sample card shot by a club member for a postal competition - about a 94/100 - somebody went home disappointed.
Grange Rifle and Pistol Club run their own internal competitions and also participate in regional and national postal competitions such as The Wirral League, Cheshire League and the National Eley Competition. High scorers in the National Eley Competition will end up shooting in the final at Bisley. GRPC also provide training facilities for Duke of Edinburgh candidates to bronze, silver or gold accreditaton.
Newcomers to the section will be looked after by our NRA/NSRA qualified range officers and coached by our NSRA qualified instructor. Shown below is a diagram used to help shooters identify possible problems with their aim.
