CHRISTMAS FUN SHOOT COURSE OF FIRE - 11TH DECEMBER

This year there will be two competitions held on both indoor ranges. The traditional “Falling Man Shoot” will take place on “A” range using any fullbore underlever rifle, and a .22 Hostage Speed Shoot against the clock will be held in “B” range using any .22 semi-auto rifle.

After last year’s difficulties (fiasco) with the club firearms, we will be allowing all comers to use their own firearms and provide their own ammo. Anyone who does not have their own suitable gun may use a borrowed one, or as a last resort, use a club gun. Hopefully everyone will be willing to lend a gun to anyone in need.  .38/.357 ammo will be available for anyone who doesn’t have their own. Open sights, scopes and red dot sights are allowed.

This year the funshoot will be financed out of section funds. There will be no entry fee.  Prizes will be given and  food and drink will be laid on.

The Falling Man Shoot will be a new course of fire this year involving 18 rounds and 2 reloads. There are 5 falling man targets each held upright by a shotgun clay on string, plus 2 paper targets on a turning target frame.

The falling man targets are all at different distances down the range and the shooter starts behind a table at about 17 metres. The start position is with 6 rounds loaded, the chamber empty, with the hammer down, and the gun on the table, plus 12 loose rounds on the table. On the command, the turning target turns away for five seconds and when it turns to face, the shooter picks up the rifle, chambers the first round and starts by shooting the five clays to drop all the falling man targets, before engaging the upper of the two paper targets. He then reloads another six loose rounds and continues firing on the upper target before reloading the final six rounds and engaging the lower paper target. The target will turn away after 90 seconds. All the targets must drop before shooting at the paper target. Score rings on the paper target are 10, 9, 8, and 7. Ten points are scored for each target that falls plus a possible 70 points on the upper paper target, and 60 points on the lower one making a possible maximum score of 180. If the falling man targets don’t all drop with the first six shots, the shooter should continue to shoot them with the second six and put any remaining shots on the upper paper target. The final six should all be put on the lower target.

The Hostage Speed Shoot on “B” range will be timed against a stop-watch. There will be three target frames, each with two pairs of targets. Each pair of targets consists of a black and a white target with an inner box scoring ten points and an outer area scoring five points. Half of the black targets partially cover the whites and half of the whites partially cover the blacks. 12 targets in total, 6 black and 6 white. There will also be a balloon on a stick which must be shot at the end to stop the clock. The shooter will be shooting at either blacks or whites and must put two shots on each of their 6 targets and then burst the balloon. The table will be set up at between 15 and 20 yards and there will be two bats on the table, face down, one showing black and one white. The shooter must first load a magazine with six rounds only. Extra rounds are left loose on the table and the rifle will be left unloaded on the table with the slide locked open. The shooter then steps back behind a line. On the command “GO”, The clock will be started and the shooter moves forward to the table and turns over one of the two bats to reveal either white or black. The colour turned over is the “NO SHOOT”. The shooter then loads the rifle and commences firing two shots on each of their “SHOOT” targets, reloads another six rounds and continues, then reloads another one or more rounds to burst the balloon to stop the clock. Ten points are scored for each shot in the centre area of each target and five points for each hit in the outer area. No score for a miss and ten points will be deducted for each shot which hits the wrong colour “hostage” target. The time taken, in seconds is then deducted from the points score to give a final score.
